In order to evaluate the use of phytogenic feed additives (PFA) in fattening lambs a trial with weaned lambs (20 kg) until their slaughter (42 – 45 kg) will be carried out where the performance parameters, feed intake, daily weight gain and feed conversion will be recorded.
After slaughter the carcasses will be classified by the EUROP-System and undergo further analyses. From 12 animals rumen fluid will be taken immediately after slaughter and analyses on pH and VFA concentration will be done. There will be 4 groups, one control group (D) fed with standard concentrate, trial groups A, B and C fed with standard concentrate plus phytogenic feed additive A, B and C. All groups have access to water hay and the concentrate ad libitum during the whole trial period. There will be 14 animals per group where feed intake will be recorded daily and body weight weekly.
