With the present project the influence of lacking and excessive energy supply towards standardized supply before and after the estrangement of the calves on production data, metabolism, milk quality and body composition of diary cows should be analyzed. This question is for the diary cow farmer of great economic importance because the metabolism diseases lead to sensitive reducing of the performance, fertility annoyance, excessive veterinary-costs, low use duration and animal-losses.
The energy supply in the first third of the lactation is the central problem in the feeding of milk-cows. In this phase the cows are often subjected to an energy deficite, that means that the capacity of fodder does not keep up with the energy needs. The reason is the mobilisation of body reserves with all possible negative impacts on metabolism (Ketose), fertility and at least economy.
The extent of the mobilisation and the high oft the fodder conservation are determining influenced of the supply before the estrangement of the calves. With the present project the influence of lacking and excessive energy supply towards standardized supply before and after the estrangement of the calves on production data, metabolism, milk quality and body composition of diary cows should be analyzed.
The duration for the analyses should be three months before estrangement of the calves and the first 100 days of the lactation. Beneath the absolutely production-technic data (fodder conservation, milk performance) within this project especially the metabolism situation of cows (co-operation with cattle health support Styria) and the milk quality (co-operation with the BA Rotholz) should be displayed. On acccount of very different energy supply, serious influences on the composition of milk fat (mobilisation of the body fat, fodder relevant production of fatty acids in the pansen) as well as on energy-supplying addicted protein content of the milk, are expected. The determination of the body-composition with D2O-method displays a new methodologic approach (co-operation with Hohenheim). The data of fodder-conservation and milk-performance as well as of the resulting health status are significant basic data for economical calculations.
