The use of phytogenic feed additives as a possible alternative for the reduction of odour from buildings in animal husbandry is of high relevance especially in terms of authorizations, neighbour problems, construction of stallings, stable climate, emission etc.
This scientific activity should give information on the potential ammonia reduction and possible influences on health and daily weight gain of fattening pigs. The objective is to carry out an impartial evaluation of the effect and performance of the examined product by means of the planned trial.
The deployed feed additive is compound of calcium carbonate and sea salt (carrier). The expectations of the producer are to achieve even more positive effects by means of this remedy.
At present on the market there are a lot of feed additives with similar ways of impact. On the part of the company many pronouncements are posted, therefore it is very problematic for the farmers to orientate themselves. By means of the examination of different feed additives an independent decision support for practice should be drawn up.
Economic and ecological effects of a feed additive at fattening pigs
Examination of the effects of a new feed additive on the climate in pigpens, in particular concerning the reduction of ammonia concentrations in systems with fattening pigs. Further parameters are the biological performance of the animals, water consumption, odour concentrations (emission) and nitrogen content in liquid manure.
